The Grand Palace, It is actually a complex of buildings and served as the official residence of the king of Thailand from the 18th century to the early 20th century. Today, it is used only for ceremonial purposes. The complex consists of over 100 brightly colored buildings, golden spires and glittering mosaics.
Some buildings in the complex are in pure Thai architectural style. Others, like the magnificent Dusit Hall, show signs of European influence. Dusit Hall used to serve as the Funeral Hall of the Grand Palace.
You will also be able to visit Thailand’s most sacred shrine – Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) – which contains the small and much revered Emerald Buddha. The Jade Buddha (between 60 and 75 cm tall statue) dates back to the 14th century and is located high above the heads of the worshipers and tourists. The murals that adorn the walls of the Temple depict scenes from the Thai version of the Hindu epic Ramayana.
